Good Time Law Reform

(Jason's Law)

May 18, 1975 was the last time anyone saw Jason Foreman alive.   The telephone calls rang throughout South Kingstown that day asking family and friends if anyone had seen Jason.  The Peace Dale Fire Station whistle blew to form a search party... volunteers came from neighboring Towns and then States all to look for 5 year old Jason.  The truth would not be known for 7 long years when Michael Woodmansee made a failed attempt to kill another young boy.  Woodmansee confessed to killing Jason, "for fun".  What we know he did to Jason is too horrible for those of us who knew and loved Jason to talk about even today.  The News of  Woodmansee's Early Release from prison for "Good Time", 12 years early, has shocked and enraged us all.  Jason has become Rhode Island's son because anyone who has ever loved a child cannot help but see that child when they look upon a picture of Jason.  This could of been anyone's child.

See this petition signed by the Foreman family.

Family, Friends, Neighbors, Rhode Islanders; I invite you to join us in a petition to our Rhode Island Legislature that we the CITIZENS of this wonderful State of Rhode Island want the Good Time Law Reformed as proposed by Attorney General Peter Kilmartin, Senator Susan Sosnowski  and Representative Teresa Tanzi  to eliminate Good Time Credits being earned by MURDERS, RAPISTS, CHILD MOLESTERS and KIDNAPPERS immediately.  This is about protecting the most innocent and weak in our State, many of these victims unfortunately no longer have a voice of their own to express the true sorrow they experienced.  Please assist us in being their voice now. We can no longer afford to wait and hope our Elected Officials will do the right thing, we must tell them what we the people of Rhode Island expect them to do to protect society and especially our children from the most dangerous of criminals.  As result of changing this law, we would be sending a strong message to anyone who is considering committing such terrible acts of cruel torture to another human being that "it's not worth the punishment in Rhode Island".  No more excuses for behavior motivation or prison population control.  The time has come for TRUTH IN SENTENCING and justice for their victims.  Today Inmates can earn up to 17 days* per month of Good Time Credits but let's make it so Tomorrow if you murder, rape, molest and/or kidnap a child you earn "0".

*10 days for good time, 2 days for institutional credits and 5 days for education and programming
